About me
Tinovonga Gonhi is a crop scientist/plant breeder with research interests focusing on improving productivity, sustainability (economic and environmental), and quality of agricultural production through scientific research and development. Also, I have interests in crop breeding and genetics, physiology, and agronomy and to be part of the next generation of scientists who will address critical issues related to the production of food, feed, fuel, fiber, and pharmaceutical crops doing researches that are economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally responsible for sustainable development. I have experience and skills in practical plant breeding methods, agronomy, and the use of data science to make useful deductions in breeding programs. I enjoy interacting with farmers and partners on the ground to understand their concerns towards our researches. My past research experience includes conventional breeding for climate-resilient maize varieties adapted to ESA and the use of multi-software in genetic data analysis. Currently, I’m a Ph.D. fellow at Makerere University Regional Center for Crop Improvement (MaRCCI) in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology and doing my research with CIMMYT-Zimbabwe in collaboration with IITA.
