Effect of Continued use of Climate-Smart Practices on Smallholder Farmers’ Resilience to Food Insecurity shocks in Central Uganda

Abstract (Synopsis or Brief)

Many Sub-Saharan African countries are encountering extremities in weather and climate events such as heat waves, droughts, food price volatility and health crises (IPCC, 2014). This has not only resulted into devastating effects among the poor and vulnerable farmers but also disorganized their livelihoods strategies, food systems inclusive. In Uganda, these challenges have been more experienced in the central cattle corridors. The future lies in promotion and dissemination of Climate-Smart Practices (CSPs) to achieve the triple benefits of sustained food production, resilience-building and mitigation. Continued application of these CSAs is envisaged to result into reduced Food-insecurity challenges; however, many households still remain food insecure.
